The Smell of Fire!

THE SMELL OF FIRE!

According to the Bible, there are two things that smell as sweet fragrances to the Lord. One is the prayers of the saints, and the other is fire!

God refers to the "sweet savour" of an offering made by fire approximately 25 times in the Old Testament. Flames ascending from fire-consumed offerings smell to the Lord as the fragrance of the finest French perfumes do to us.

So the fragrance of sweet-smelling fire ascended to the throne of God, and God also sent down fire from Heaven. When Solomon dedicated the temple, fire came down. When Elijah prayed, fire came down.

In Luke 3:16, John the Baptist said about our Lord Jesus, "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with Fire." That was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when Jesus sent down His Holy Ghost and fire from heaven.

Fire is very important to God and should also be to us.

We need to understand that before God can send down His fire, we need to offer up a sacrifice upon the altar. In the Bible, the fire never fell upon a cold, dry altar. It always fell upon a blood-soaked altar where there was a precious sacrifice, a sign of total consecration.

That is why we must preached a blood-soaked Gospel. We must preach about Jesus, we must tell of the cruel whipping that He received, about the crown of thorns that He wore, about how He hung upon that cross. We must tell the people about His blood that ran down that Cross, which flows even today, bringing salvation, healing, and deliverance to all.

In other words, we must make much of the cross of Jesus and make it the central theme of our lives, ministries, and churches.

That is when the fire falls. The blood always brings down the glory. We must plead and proclaim the blood of Jesus over our homes and our families daily, and teach our people about the power of the blood of Jesus.

Then as the Apostle Paul exhorted us to, let us remember to consecrate ourselves, our bodies as a "living dacrifice" unto the Lord.

God will always answer with Fire!
